About Me

Mone’t Burrell was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. She first discovered a connection to drawing as an escape from reality. From an early age, Burrell always had a motivation to challenge her skills. Burrell noticed her strong attention to detail. So she started communicating the ideas she dreamed up through drawing clothes. She approached her mother, the daughter of a seamstress, to teach her to sew and construct some of the designs that she was drawing. Burrell saw this as an opportunity to learn from her mother and gain the necessary knowledge in machine and hand sewing. Burrell was given the opportunity to take a high school-level fashion course. By the age of seventeen, Burrell decided to participate in her first fashion show competition submitting one of her designs. She created patterns and garments and was proficient with her sewing skills.
Burrell was sure she found her passion in fashion design so she decided to pursue an education in fashion design. Burrell constantly challenges herself with the questions, “what can I do differently?”, “How can I apply what I have learned and explore in new ways?”. In her free time, outside of school demands, Burrell participates in numerous fashion shows to continue her passion for fashion, as well as network. She tries to discover new methods of fabric manipulation and implement them in new designs. She is influenced by dance and movement; they inform her silhouette choices and design details.
Mone’t Burrell continues to focus on her passion for fashion as well as exploring her design aesthetic. Design for Burrell means exploring the importance of; empowerment, inclusivity, texture, detail, movement, and femininity, through innovation. Burrell looks forward to starting her own fashion company and giving back to her community through creating dancewear designs and offering them to the group that gave her the passion for dance and fashion.
